A post-event massage is a type of sports massage focused on helping your body recover after physical activity—whether it’s a race, competition, match, or intense training session. Like sports massage, it uses a mix of techniques tailored to your needs, but the goal here is recovery, relaxation, and reducing muscle soreness, rather than performance.
It helps flush out waste products like lactic acid, calm the nervous system, and relieve tight or overworked muscles so your body can bounce back faster.
At D2 Sports Massage, we start with a brief chat about your activity—what you’ve just done, how you’re feeling, and if there are any areas of concern (cramping, tightness, fatigue).
You’ll then relax on the table, and the therapist will use gentler, slower techniques than you’d experience in a deep tissue or pre-event massage. These may include:
-Long, flowing strokes to promote circulation and aid lymphatic drainage
-Gentle kneading and compressions to reduce muscle fatigue
-Light stretching or joint mobilisations to ease stiffness
-Focused treatment for any sore or tight areas
The pressure is typically lighter and more soothing, helping reduce inflammation, prevent DOMS (delayed onset muscle soreness), and promote overall relaxation. You’ll leave feeling calmer, looser, and better able to recover in the hours and days after your event.
Post-event massage is ideal for:
-Athletes and recreational sportspeople after events or training
-Runners, cyclists, and swimmers post-race
-Team players after matches or tournaments
-Anyone feeling tight, sore, or fatigued after intense physical effort
It’s most effective when done within 24–48 hours after your activity, especially alongside proper hydration, nutrition, and rest.
